Venue: The Fairway Hotel & Spa www.fairwayhotel.co.ug will be the official hotel of JUAMI 2018. All participants who do not reside in Kampala or its vicinity will be accommodated at the Fairway. Students will be housed in either double or triple rooms. Instructors and lecturers will be housed in singles. For those booking with the hotel directly, please use the booking code JUAMI. Breakfast will be provided by the hotel. The majority of the workshop activities will be held at the Makerere University campus. Transportation from and to the hotel will be provided. Alternatively, participants may choose to walk the 20 minute distance.
Travel Dates: Fellows are expected to arrive on Sunday, December 9, 2018, with formal activities starting on Monday morning. The program will end at noon on Friday, December 21. Instructors and lecturers are invited to spend as much time at JUAMI as they are able.
Travel Arrangements: JUAMI organizers will assist students and instructors from Africa in making travel arrangements, whether this be by air or by ground. This permits us to directly purchase your tickets. For US participants, we ask that you purchase your tickets yourself, for which you will be later reimbursed. Because funding is provided by a federal agency (the US National Science Foundation), it is essential that travel conform to certain regulations for reimbursement. JUAMI organizers will be in communication with you to describe those regulations.
Travel by Air: Entebbe International Airport (airport code EBB), approximately 40 km or 25 mi from the center of Kampala, will be the most convenient port of entry for most international travelers. Travel Requirements: All travelers to Uganda MUST have a valid Yellow Fever Immunization card in order to enter the country. In addition, all travelers with the exception of those from the countries listed below* are required to obtain an entry visa. The cost of a single entry visa is US $50. Participants are strongly encouraged to secure visas in advance through the Uganda E-Visa service at https://visas.immigration.go.ug. Alternatively, visas may be obtained at Uganda missions abroad or on arrival at the ports of entry in the country. Obtaining a visa on arrival at Entebbe Airport is possible, but can be a very lengthy process.
